Royals take 3-1 series lead heading into Week 3 of AA Playoffs
The Royals are in the drivers seat as they won both games in Week 2 of their OEHL AA Quarterfinals matchup vs. Durham Thundercats.
Anchored by the steadfast goaltending of #30 Jensen van Boekel, the Royals defensive game was strong Friday night as they shutout Durham by a score of 4-0. Goal scorers on the night were #44 Callan Christner (assisted by Killing), #20 Tristan Hohl (assisted by Sauder/Robichaud, #5 Geoff Killing (assisted by Sauder/Christner) and #9 Collin Hartwick (unassisted).
Game 4 saw the Royals put out a strong showing in front of a big crowd in Tavistock. U11 Rep player Silas Dronfield was the flag bearer for the night. Scoring for the Royals got underway near the midway mark of the 1st as #18 Trevor Sauder picked up a short handed goal for the home team.
The 2nd period saw the Royals extend the lead with scoring from #14 Drew Gerth (assisted by Robichaud/Kienapple) and #10 Sean Kienapple (assisted by Robichaud/Gerth) with Durham getting on the board with 2 mins left in the 2nd period.
The 3rd period saw early goals from the Royals by #44 Callan Christner (assisted by Mike Noyes/Kropf) and #25 Jeremy Munro with a shorty (unassisted). With the visiting goalie pulled for the extra attacker, the Royals took full advantage of as #16 Sean Leslie (assisted by Zilke/Killing) gave the home team a commanding 6-1 lead. With less then 6 mins to go Durham scored their 2nd goal but the Royals #15 Matt Zilke (assisted by the Noyes brother) answered right back to make the score 7-2 which ended up being the final tally on the score sheets. The Royals now carry a 3-1 series lead heading into the final weekend of the OEHL AA Quarterfinals
